Dawnmask

Dawnmask is a former loner, previously going by the name Ellie. Both her parents died when she was young and thus Ellie and her brother Smokey were left to fend for themselves. The siblings stayed together for a month or two before parting ways, after the death of their mother nothing seemed to hold them to each other.

Ellie found herself constantly on the move, never staying still for longer than a moon. She learnt much about the world on her travels and discovered that she was perfectly content to be by herself. Years passed and Ellie was still on her own and still absolutely fine with it. She was a good hunter and had eventually taught herself to fish, something that became a favourite pastime of hers. However, in her travels, she seemed to frequently encounter her brother. The first time it happened she barely recognised him, only identifying him by name. They caught up and reminisced about their lives, both surprised that the other had also become a wanderer. Never staying in one place for long, both were called back to their lives quickly.

'To be alone is to be free' became Ellie's motto. She spoke it whenever she felt tied to a specific place or cat and the emotional pain of forming little to no attachments seemed to fade for a time. Outsiders viewed her life as lonely and insiders, well, they didn't exist. Ellie was both a formidable hunter and fighter, but she had nobody to share any accomplishments with, which would eventually get to her.

It was spring when she next met Smokey again, who had a fancy new name: Smokefang. When inquiring, she found her brother had left the life of a wanderer behind and had set up camp with a ragtag bunch of cats who called themselves OceanClan. This all seemed rather ridiculous to her, after all, she had never had proper friends let alone a family. Her brother insisted that she met Sealstar, their leader. Ellie was taken aback by Sealstar who seemed to radiate authority and structure, everything Ellie thought she opposed.

After a strangely short amount of time, Ellie made the decision to join OceanClan and forsake her old life. It wasn't as hard as she had thought it would be. After spending a mere morning with the clan on the dawn patrol, she came to the realisation that her life had been missing something. That something was friendship and relationships. She was named Dawnpaw and apprenticed to Sealstar but quickly became the warrior known as Dawnmask. Dawnmask found socialising and forming friendships difficult at first but soon grew used to the idea of sharing and trusting in her clanmates. She has gained something she hadn't realised was missing; a home.
